I told you a few days ago the release of Windows 8 was imminent and today Microsoft confirmed on their blog they will be releasing a Developer Preview of Windows 8 later this afternoon/evening. At this point it’s still unclear if you will need an MSDN subscription to grab a copy however they did say that because this is just a Beta / Dev Preview version, an upgrade from Windows 7 is not supported – you will need to do a full install. Bummer… It also looks like I should have tried to attend the BUILD or PDC conference this year because apparently Microsoft had an Oprah moment and gave away a new computer with Windows 8 running on it… Good move for Microsoft. Can’t think of a better way to get DEV’s excited about a platform. If it’s good enough for Google, why not Microsoft! Stay tuned for some deep coverage of Windows 8 after the release tonight.
